I like corporate America, in general. I think the American industrialist is one of the most incredible types of people to walk the earth. The man who innovates a new product or new method, builds a company, creates wealth, and keeps it for himself is someone who should not be demonized or cursed.
However, we live in a sinful world. Two issues on Drudge made me sad.
The first of course is the continued collapse of the financial markets. It really is a pity that anyone expects a handout. The industrialist keeps the wealth he makes, but he also suffers for the wealth he loses. He plays by the rules and enjoys the fruit of success but feels the pain of failure. Profits should be privatized but losses should never be socialized.
The second is a heartbreaking article about the Blackberry. Apparently 35% of Blackberry owners would choose their device over their spouse. Its shocking but not truly surprising with marriages meaning nothing and the Blackberry a necessary business appliance. The sad thing is that we make the comparison. Obviously the two do not need to be in conflict, but when checking email becomes an addiction, people should re-evaluate their priorities.
Unfortunately today’s industrialist expects someone else to play cleanup for his stupidity, and he does not understand what is to be valued in life. Seeking wealth is an honorable goal, but what type of wealth and at what cost?
