Changes Coming

I’m looking to changes freshtracks around a little bit. I’m probably going to split into two blogs of sorts, one for tech writing and one for more philosophical and theological discourse. There’s always a danger of compartmentalizing or as we say in computer science, “partitioning” your life, but I think it will be helpful both to allow most of my friends who could care less about the latest programming language I’m studying and also the developers visiting my site who don’t want my political observations.

I’ll also be phasing out my “personal life” blogging, because nobody actually cares about that anyway, except my friends, who all know me well enough anyway. I’ll probably keep as much of the design as I can, or just switch to a basic WordPress theme. Showcasing my slick design abilities isn’t really important as it takes too long and I’m probably not going to be a career web designer.

  1. Just a tip: I’ve found myself it’s easier to manage one blog than three (which I used to have) and just make sure that every post goes into one of the “main categories”. Then you create a nice index page at /tech and /musings or wherever for the categories, and a separate RSS feed for each category (which most systems do by default), and make the header subtitle and RSS auto-discovery links change based on what page you’re on.

Benefits include doing all site management/stats/writing from one interface, and as a bonus you can have a “combined blog” and RSS feed with all your content easily (for any of us interested in your tech writings *and* your musings :) )
